Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an 8-week evidence-based group study for preventing depressive relapse and managing mood disorders. It also reduces acute depression, anxiety, and stress.

Mindfulness is a non-judgmental way of paying attention to the present moment. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is designed to bring awareness to the habitual negative thinking that leads to depressive and anxious spirals. Combined, MBCT interrupts how we habitually react to situations, so we can choose to respond in more skillful ways.

Learn skills and practices to manage depression, anxiety, and prevent relapse. By knowing how to identify the triggers and symptoms of anxiety and depression, participants can effectively address these issues as they arise in everyday life.

FriendlyCare Mindfulness-Based Programs are group sessions designed to guide participants to learn and develop skills to cope with stress, depression, and anxiety using mindfulness practices and meditations. Discussions center on experiences with meditation and not on personal stories.

FriendlyCare has been giving Mindfulness programs since 2016 and is certified to deliver MBCT by the Centre for Mindfulness Studies - Toronto.  Some of its facilitators trained under Zindel Segal, one of the developers of MBCT.

A commitment to attendance and home practice activities is required.

Zindel Segal, who trained some of the facilitators of FriendlyCare, gave a TED talk on the practice of mindfulness (see video below). In this 4-minute excerpt he explains that it is a “pragmatic health practice” and discusses Jon Kabat Zinn’s work with patients experiencing pain. Watch the full video.
